Marc Aubanel - Class of 1984

Marc met Sheila Morissette in 1987 while attending Concordia University in Montreal

Memory Lane

Can't remember much about high school,
I am not blessed with a good memory,
but again had some great influential teachers
(just wish I could remember their names).
I think I got in trouble with teacher's (nothing major).
I remember in chemistry class I spent some time in the corner
with my back to the wall.

My favorite classes was probably mathematics,
as I had an ease with the subject matter.

The most useful course I took though is most likely typing.
If memory serves me correctly I did this as it was the only elective
I could take instead of biology
I had a mortal fear of cutting open pigs, rats etc....
This was of course before computers took a hold
and became a mainstay of writing and communication.

In high school I wasn't on any committees and wasn't very socially active.
The only mainstay I remember is a bunch of us getting together
to play risk at my house at lunch
(I did live two blocks from school).

Like any other good Montrealer I had an aversion
to winter clothes and probably went to school
way underdressed again because of my proximity.

I remember playing guitar with Andrew Gariepy at his home

Have fond memories of Guy & Jean Cote

Remember being rather bored at school (sorry, I feel bad saying that)

MARC AUBANEL

Marc was born Montreal, January 2nd 1967 and grew up on Green Steet two blocks from Chambly County High. He attended St. Lambert Elementary school but can't remember much about grade school but does remember having some great teachers.
"I can't remember their names unfortunately.  I am sure if I was in today's school system that I would be diagnosed with ADD.  I was pretty hyperactive, distracted and stuck in my own fantasy world."
He first attended high school at De Roberval and then on to Chambly County. Marc recalls that he was a small, light, slow scrawny kid that wasn't really good at sports per se.  He played hockey in the St. Lambert system (but not for school), soccer and downhill ski.
" I would say I am a better athlete today at 40 than I ever was as a kid.  I ski a lot (living just an hour away from Whistler), bike, run daily, golf, rock climb and generally enjoy outdoor life."

After Chambly he went to Champlain College for a general arts degree and then went on to Concordia University and received a BA with honors specializing in Communication Studies.   His first job after university was with Bob Izumi's "Real Fishing Show" (1989-1991).  It was located in Burlington, Ontario but Marc lived in nearby Hamilton (there was nothing to rent in Burlington at the time).  He was a video editor for the weekly series and a quick jaunt as editor for his wife's short lived show called "J a la Peche" (on the Quebec french equivalent of TSN at the time).  He was in charge of off line editing for the first year then helped set up a semi online edit suite which lowered the cost when Bob moved to a spanking new building.
" I had a great time on the show and learned more about fishing than I care to admit."

Marc's second job was with a weekly Vancouver Canucks (1991-1992) program as the online & offline editor.  As he recalls the show was called "Winning Spirit".  The show over-saturated his love of hockey. He couldn't stand to look at highlight reels after that (a lot of the show was trying to find a particular play from any game in the entire NHL that some writer thought had happened).  He doesn't think he has ever recovered from that experience.

His third job lasted a long time 1992-2006. He worked at Electronic Arts as an Assistant producer, associate producer, producer, executive producer then eventually Vice President.

Marc personally experienced the growth of the video game industry from a small boutique industry to a major player in the entertainment business.  He travelled the world, worked with athletes, revolutionized how popular music was used in games, and got to work with extremely talented people.

Marc's latest endeavour is running his own media company. APK Media/Stage 3 Media Inc. This great new media experiment is why he left a successful career to start a grassroots revolution.  He is one of the founders of the production company making this exciting experiment in new media known as Sanctuary. The concept being to simply create and distribute first class entertainment independently, and totally forgo the traditional studio system. The equipment is now accessible to the masses and the internet provides the means for mass distribution.

Marc met Sheila Morissette in University at Concordia and they have been living together ever since.
" I am deeply agnostic and don't believe in the ritual of marriage but am deeply dedicated to my spouse of almost 20 years now."
Sheila is a succesful local potter and is actively involved in the Vancouver pottery community. You can see her work at the Potter's Guild in Granville Island.  They have no children but have a beautiful dog (3 year old miniature schnauzer) & parrot (17 year old Double Yellow Headed Amazon).

Marc has fond memories of St. Lambert and Montreal going through huge changes in the 70's with (Rene) Levesque coming into power (main reason he left the province.Thinking back the world has changed so much more for his generation than it had for previous generations. Where multiple music formats have come and gone, the internet has revolutionalized society. Video games have become a major entertainment medium and society is moving at a breakneck pace.

"I hope that future Chambly County students are being as well prepared for this new world as we were when we were in school."

On a bright 'sunglasses around day' Marc and Sheila enjoy a vist with family, sister Jessie and parents.

Marc, seen here relaxing at their new home in Vancouver, British Columbia, is CEO / Founder at Stage 3 Media Inc. Creative Director / Entrepreneur at Maubanel Productions Executive Producer at EAC
