Jennifer Morehouse - Class of 1984

Jennifer appears in one of her first acting roles in Sue Benham's production of "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM" - 1983.

Memory Lane

One interesting variety show anecdote -- which I only heard about 10 years later -- occurred when Mr. John Prince, the principal at the time (another very strong influence in my life) once 'saved our skins' when, James Hadley, Paul Kennedy, Raph Thomas and I performed a slightly 'racy' version of 'Who are the People in your Neighbourhood' (maybe some of you still remember.... oh dear!). Mr. Prince had to answer to quite a few parents after that one.

Most of my favorite High School times were always in the theatre productions (singing to Paul Kennedy in 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' or playing Philia in 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.')

Best friends in later high school years were many:  James Hadley, Julienne Hills, Nazneen Ahmad, Ellen Prince, and in the earlier years:  Carl Morrison, Paul Hendricks, Barb von Thaden, Carol Alexander, Melanie Olin, Tracey Kennedy (to name only a few of our clan!)

The best part about high school for me was the incessant laughter, firstly with Carl Morrison and Paul Hendricks and the 'clan' in the early years (once we all forced Carol Alexander to put her bra on a.... monument in the centre of Saint-Lambert....), then later in the hallways with James Hadley, Raph Thomas, and Tim Rahilly.  (She credits her good abdominal muscles to those years of laughter!)

Jennifer is thrilled to have been nominated to be a part of the Alumni Association's Who's Who Directory, and will always be grateful for those formative years at C.C.H.S.

Jennifer Morehouse

Jennifer was born July 28, 1967, in Montreal and lived most of her childhood on Houde Boulevard with her parents, Maxine and Douglas, and siblings, Ken, Sue, and Kathryn (and Chippy and Jed and Meadow and Bamboo and Critter :).

She attended St. Lambert Elementary and had wonderful friends at school. Her closest friendships evolved in grade 3 (James Hadley, Emily Harp, Paul Kennedy, Robert Errington) in the choir and orchestra led by Ernst Roth, one of the major influences of her life.

While attending Chambly County High during the remainder of her St. Lambert school years Jennifer was involved in as many sports as possible (badminton, soccer, field hockey, basketball, volleyball) and played in several stage productions, including Sue Benham's production of 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.' Jennifer also enjoyed participating in several variety shows.

Her favorite teachers were Mrs. Gould, especially for her careful and patient teaching of Algebra, Mr. Praw for keeping the students so entertained and interested as the students struggled with Geometry, Mr. West for making even Hamlet intriguing, and for flirting shamelessly with her mother, which made them all smile, Sue Benham for encouraging her to get up and feel comfortable on stage.  But, she owes the most to John Prince, who always offered an incredible amount of support through many things, over the years.

Jennifer had originally considered entering the field of medicine, following in her dad's footsteps, but in final decision, changed her career plans and followed James Hadley to study theatre at John Abbott College, and later followed with courses leading to a degree in Religious Studies at McGill University. In recent years Jennifer has undertaken studies in Linguistics and Psychology at McGill, hopefully leading to a degree in Speech Pathology

Jennifer's first professional theatre production was at The Spectrum in Montreal, when she was only 17 years old, in James Rado's 'Hair' where she played the lead female character, Sheila.  Next job was at the Centaur theatre in 'Goodnight Desdemona, Goodmorning Juliet'.  Since then she has been involved in over 50 theatre productions across Canada in her twenty years in the business, including; being resident musical director for Repercussion Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park Festival for 7 years (Mr West would be proud!).

A few of Jennifer's favorite performances include; the role of Sophia in Anton Piatigorsky's 'Easy Lenny Lasmon and the Great Western Ascension' for which she garnered a Dora Nomination (Go Chicken Go, Toronto), Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize winning 'The Goat' with Alberta Theatre Projects for which she garned a Betty Mitchell Nomination and which she also played to critical acclaim in Montreal (Centaur Theatre), Michael Healey's 'Plan B' (also a Betty Mitchell nomination).

This fall she is thrilled to have been invited to be a part of the company at the Stratford Festival (the NHL of theatre!) where she will work with one of her favorite directors, Peter Hinton, current artistic director of the National Arts Centre, and associate director at the Stratford Festival.

She can be heard in many cartoons, radio ads, television voice-overs, including the voice of ATANA in the beautifully animated series INUK, as well as SAMANTHA in the animated series RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT.  Jennifer has performed in many film and television productions, which are too many to list here, but she admits that her real love is in the theatre.

Jennifer is married to Matthew Anderson, whom she met at the faculty of Religious Studies at McGill University.  He currently teaches at Concordia University in Theological Studies and is an ordained pastor of the Lutheran Church. She has three children; sons Nathan (21, currently studying early childhood education at Vanier) and Daniel (20, studying at the prestigious Liberal Arts college at Concordia University), and daughter Gabriel (8, who claims to adore grade three). They also had a dog (named Mac Duff!) for 15 years but he died in 2005. He was blind and deaf so his nickname was Sir Underfoot.... Jennifer readily admits, “As the years go on, I realize more and more that my family is the true centre of my life".

Throughout every busy schedule of travel, rehearsals and acting Jennifer Morehouse enjoys the full support of her family. Seen with Jennifer in this recent family portrait are, Daniel (20), husband Matthew, son Nathan (22) and daughter Gabriel (8).

Jennifer Morehouse has appeared on stages across Canada, in T.V. series and movies. Her long list of credits include: "Revenge", "Heist", Le Marais", "Nightwaves", "The Day After Tomorrow", "Geraldine's Fortune"and "Mystery Ink". Throughout summer 2007 Jennifer will be performing in Stratford.
